On Going General Projects

FUNDRAISING

The Club eventually sponsored a Yeppoon Lioness Club and as time went by the Lioness members became involved in helping the Yeppoon Lions Club and sharing projects. Through the sale of Lions Christmas Cakes and Lions Mints, money continues to be raised to support local charities and institutions. Our Club BBQ stall held monthly at the Figtree markets also raises much needed funds which we use to support worthy causes in our area. Assistance is given each year to the Salvation Army Red Shield door knock appeal, Blue Care, Queensland Cancer Fund , Yeppoon Coastguard, Yeppoon SES ,Helicopter Rescue, as well as many others worthy causes.

FUTURE PROJECTS

Two projects which we hope to start on in the near future are further development of Merv Anderson Park (adjacent to the Ross Ck. Bridge ), and development of the Wreck Point lookout. These projects are being carried out in conjunction with the Rockhampton Regional Council, and should provide much better facilities for locals and visitors alike.

LIONS INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS

Our Club continues to financially support Lions International “SIGHT FIRST” and “SIGHT FIRST 2” projects. Through these projects, sight has been restored to thousands of sight impaired people through out the world, particularly in third world countries.

MOTIVATION OF MEMBERS

Over the past 40 years, a conservative estimate of Yeppoon Lions contribution to the local community through service and projects would be in excess of 300,000 hours.

You might ask “Why do we do this”, and our reply would be that through the friendships that we have made within the Club, the enjoyment we had in our social activities, and the good feeling we get from helping others, the improvements we have made in our local area and the free social activities we have provided for local families through our yearly community projects of Pinefest etc, we feel that we are adequately compensated for our efforts
